'Making a bad system worse' | Half of UK jobseekers have faced an AI interview - but few want to get rid of it

Almost half (47%) of UK job seekers have now been interviewed by an AI system, new research finds.

According to the Greenhouse 2026 Candidate AI Interview Report, which surveyed 2,950 active job seekers, 30% of UK candidates have already walked away from a hiring process because it included an AI interview, and another 19% say they would.

The report, by hiring platform Greenhouse, further reveals how AI interviews are becoming mainstream in the UK, and how the first wave has failed on transparency, trust, and candidate experience.

AI is everywhere but transparency around it isn’t

Candidates aren’t rejecting AI, they’re rejecting how it’s being used, the report indicates. The majority of candidates (82%) were never clearly told upfront that AI would be evaluating them, and for one in four (24%), they only found out once the interview started. Just one in 10 say employers have clear AI policies, yet 59% believe disclosure should be a legal requirement.
